Oxygen Magazine Featured Workout Photoshoot

Ever since I started working out, I always looked to the fitness magazines for inspiration. Their pages were filled with delicious recipes, motivation, and fun challenging workouts demonstrated by the most beautiful, in shape and perfectly styled fitness models. I couldn’t get enough of them, I soaked them up like a sponge. I eventually set a pretty high long-term goal for myself, I would work my butt off and try and get into one of these magazines. I also set one other goal at the same time, I wanted to turn Pro, but that’s another blog for later. A few months ago, and some 9 years later, I got an email from one of the magazines I admired the most, Oxygen Magazine! They had asked me to be part of a magazine photoshoot and it was amazing.
Fast forward a couple months later and I’ve got a date set to shoot. I got my nails done, my highlights touched up and packed up all my favorite workout clothes and shoes. I live in the East Bay of San Francisco, so the drive to the location was about 4 1/2 hours away. I didn’t want to be bloated for my shoot, so I drove up the night before and stayed at a hotel. I checked in, finished up my photoshoot prep routine and got to bed early.
First thing in the morning there were test shots to make sure the lighting was correct, then we moved onto the exercises. I was thankful to be able to create my own plan for the shoot. I was asked to create a plan for a body part they wanted to feature, but I can't say what it is yet, you'll will find out when the mag comes out.
Of course I wanted the plan to be super kick-ass, so I put together a pretty challenging routine, not thinking I would have to perform and hold these exercises mid-rep to demonstrate the exercise in pictures, multiple times. I really should come up with a “photoshoot” workout, because after a good shoot you always feel like you've been run over by a truck.
The shoot lasted about 5 hours and ran very smoothly. I am so happy with how everything looked, and I can’t wait to share my workout with everyone when the magazine comes out.
