Get Back On Track When You Don't Really Feel Like It
By: Tabitha Klausen How to get back on track when you don't really feel like it... We all have times we don't want to go to the gym, it could be because we have lost motivation, get busy, or just get stuck in a rut. These are a few of my tips for getting yourself re-motivated and back on track in the gym, and back on track with your diet. 1. Plan, Plan, Plan: Go online and find a new workout plan, or put one together yourself. I go to Bodybuilding.com to find new workouts, or scroll through the exercise library to find new exercises or exercises I haven't done in a while. Getting stuck in a rut with your workout program sucks, and doing the same exercises every time you are in the gym is extremely boring. 2. Keep Planning: Create a healthy meal plan for the next few days or week. I'm not talking fish and veggies, I'm talking about exciting healthy meals. Try cooking something new or seasonal like squash or stuffed pumpkin. Try a new veggie, meat, or fruit. Expand your tastes and switch things up in the kitchen! I have fallen victim to the boring meal plans, and trust me, it doesn't take long for me to start straying towards unhealthy choices. Stock your house full of healthy food, and put it where you can see it! If you put all the healthy foods in front of the bad foods you will have no excuse for having nothing to eat, and it will make you think twice when you have to push the healthy food out of the way to get to your goodies. 3. Spice Up Your Workout Music: Whether you are finding new songs or rediscovering old favorites (old Britney and Backstreet), a new workout mix can keep you motivated and you may find yourself singing in the gym! 4. Go Shopping: You deserve it! Don't you think spending a little bit of money on that new gym outfit is worth you getting back on track in the gym? I think so! Remember you don't have to go crazy. A new outfit (not a new wardrobe) every once in a while will do the trick. 5. Ogle Your "Fitspos": There is nothing wrong with checking out your favorite fitness Instagram accounts or favorite fitness models for some inspiration before the gym. You can get a lot of motivation through their pages, be it a new exercise, a workout they've posted, or just ogling their amazing bodies. Keep one thing in mind though, ogling and idolizing are 2 different things - you want to get motivation from them, not want to be them. This can lead to disappointment or becoming unmotivated if we aren't seeing the same results as them. Everyone is different, focus on your own journey. 6. When In Doubt, Chug Your Pre-workout: This may not apply to everyone, as some people do not take pre-workouts. I do, and if I feel myself starting to make excuses why I shouldn't go to the gym right before I'm supposed to go. I'll make up my pre-workout drink and start drinking! If you take pre-workouts, you know the sucky feeling you get if you drink a pre-workout and don't workout, (hello psychopath). This is a last ditch effort and always works for me. I take Beast Sports Nutrition's Beast Mode as my pre-workout, about 15 mins before the gym. These are a few of the tips I use personally to get myself motivated if I'm feeling like I'm in a funk, or I just don't want to workout. Good luck and happy training Beasts!
