Summer Shakes

width=Summer is fast-approaching, which means cooler drinks are on the horizon.  This is the time of year that I swap out my Skinny Vanilla Lattes for iced Americanos at Starbucks.  Similarly, I trade my warm and gooey protein brownies and my Greek yogurt pudding out for cold, frothy, delicious protein shakes.  These recipes are just as filling as their warmer counterparts, and they’ll satisfy your thirst for something on the rocks.  All of these can be made in a blender/Magic Bullet.  Hope you enjoy! Orange Creamsicle: I have been obsessed with all things orange creamsicle since I was a kid.  I love this shake and have it pretty much daily as my PWO meal.  Given the warm temps here in NC, this citrus-y shake is really hitting the spot right now. 1 scoop BEAST vanilla whey protein powder ½ Naval or Valencia orange (do NOT use orange juice concentrate – use a real orange) ½ t – 1 t orange extract (don’t skip this – add as much or as little as you want to give you that great orange flavor) 1 T Jello sugar free/fat free pudding mix ½ c 0% Greek yogurt 1 T fat free cream cheese (optional) Ice/water /almond milk Add as much or as little ice as you want to give you your desired consistency.  You can play with the amounts of greek yogurt and almond milk, too.  I’ve even been known to add in ½ an avocado from time to time to give it a little extra creaminess.  Never added avocados to your shakes before?  I swear by this trick, and don’t knock it till you try it!   Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Heaven: chocolate, PB, and ‘nanas – does it get any better? 1 scoop BEAST chocolate whey ½ large or 1 small banana 1 t unsweetened cocoa powder 1 T Jello sugar free/fat free chocolate fudge pudding mix ½ c 0% Greek yogurt 1 T natural peanut butter OR PB2 Ice/water/almond milk Capella flavor drops: banana split and peanut butter (optional) I play around with this one a lot – especially since I am the proud owner of just about every flavor drop Capella has ever made.  Sometimes I leave out the natural PB and opt for the lower cal PB2 and then add in some PB drops.  Sometimes I use banana cream jello pudding mix and use less banana to drop my sugar/carb content a bit………it all depends on how banana-y, chocolate-y, or peanut butter-y I want my shake! Chocolate Peppermint Shake: chocolate/peppermint is one of my favorite combinations.  Needless to say, Christmas is usually a wonderful holiday for me. 1 scoop BEAST chocolate whey 1 c 0% Greek yogurt 1-2 oz sugar free Torani peppermint syrup 1 T Jello sugar free/fat free chocolate fudge pudding mix Water/ice/almond milk If you want, you can make this white chocolate by subbing in vanilla whey and white chocolate jello pudding mix.  Either way, it’s delicious! Pumpkin Cheesecake Protein Shake:  anyone who knew me when I was competing last October will tell you that I was downright obsessed with all things pumpkin.  This shake was in my face the day after I stepped off the stage. 1 scoop BEAST vanilla whey ½ c canned pumpkin ½ c 0% Greek yogurt 1 T Jello sugar free/fat free cheesecake pudding mix 1 T fat free cream cheese 1-2oz sugar free Torani pumpkin pie syrup OR 10-12 pumpkin pie Capella flavor drops Cinnamon, nutmeg   Beth is an NPC and OCB figure competitor and has been competing for 3 years.  When she’s not rocking the stage in her stiletto heels, she’s either at work as Project Manager at a Pharmaceutical company in Durham, NC or she’s in the gym training clients or teaching spin classes.  In her very minimal free time, Beth likes to sleep, eat, play with her dog, and spend time with her friends (who also like to sleep and eat).
