How it went down...

I competed at the OCB Yorton Cup a couple of weekends ago, and I wanted to update all Beast followers on how the show went. This was my first figure competition in the OCB, a natural federation, and it was a great experience. I’ve always been a natural girl: I’ve never taken anything that I can’t get from the grocery store. Whey protein, fish oil, a multivitamin, and calcium are all I have EVER taken. So when I get up on stage next to girls who outweigh me by 10 pounds or more, I don’t stand a chance. I feel like I’m on a more even playing field in the OCB, and I really like that. Additionally, we got tons of stage time. During pre-judging, all 7 girls in my class were brought out on stage and put through our quarter turns together. They turned us and switched us, and turned us some more; we were on stage for about 10 minutes total, which is WAY longer than I’ve ever been on stage in other shows. For the night show, each competitor got to perform a “T-walk,” during which you strut around from the back of the stage, to the front, to the right, then to the left. The judges get to see your entire physique, from every angle, and you get to have some fun and let your personality shine through. This federation is really the perfect fit for me. width=

I ended up bringing my best physique to the stage, hands down. This was my 3rd show, and I have never looked this good. I was tight and tiny, yet I had fullness and thickness where I needed it. From the back, it was lights out, game over. I ended up placing 3rd in my class, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a smidge disappointed in that placing. I thought I deserved better (as I’m sure all competitors do), but I understand this sport is subjective. I was not what they were looking for on show day, and that’s ok. This is why I give 100% to my competition prep: I don’t want there to be ANY doubt that I should win. I want the decision to be out of my control, I want to know there wasn’t anything else I could have done. I don’t want to know that I could have pushed harder during my workouts, or been more compliant with my diet. I leave nothing to chance. width=

Here are all 7 of us. I am 3rd from the right in the blue suit.

I traveled to this show with 3 other competitors: Lauren, Ashley, and Nicole.  We all train together in a big group along with some other girls who ended up not competing at this show. Together, we are dubbed the Yeager Bombs (after our trainer, Leigh Ann Yeager), and it was awesome going into this show with them. We had fun backstage together: we took pictures, we laughed, we calmed each other down, we critiqued each other’s posing, we danced, and we threw craisins at each other. It was a blast, and that’s why I love competing and training with friends. We have been training together for this show for over 6 months now, and we are very close friends. We have been through a lot together, and it meant so much to be able to share the stage with them. I am so proud of each one of them, and I know they all accomplished all of their own personal goals. width=

All in all, it was a great weekend for the Yeager Bombs, with 2 trophies and some happy first-time competitors!

width=Beth is an NPC and OCB figure competitor and has been competing for 3 years.  When she’s not rocking the stage in her stiletto heels, she’s either at work as Project Manager at a Pharmaceutical company in Durham, NC or she’s in the gym training clients or teaching spin classes.  In her very minimal free time, Beth likes to sleep, eat, play with her dog, and spend time with her boyfriend and friends (who also like to sleep and eat).
