Gyms In January

Posted by Vincent Russo on

We all know that with the New year comes that same, every year resolution to join a gym. That being said, Gyms in January are going to be packed.  This may be upsetting to most but please don’t get frustrated.  I understand you’re on a schedule, and you’ve been on one for quite some time, and now everything is thrown out of wack! Well, not necessarily. All you need to do is come up with a Plan-B. By this, I mean for you to go into the gym with the same plan as you have had before. This plan stays the same until that significant moment comes up where your machine and/or weights that you need are being used. This is where Plan-B steps in! Don’t sit around for 5-10 minutes waiting for that person to finish their sets, instead have a backup plan to move forward in your workout that focuses on the same muscle groups being worked. For example if you are trying to do a barbell bench press but all of the benches are being used, revert to DB Bench Press or Use a machine that mimics the same motion. This is also a great way to implement different techniques like drop sets and rest pauses to your workout as well add variation with the different stresses you add to your body. If you’re looking to do cardio, and all the machines are being used, bundle up and run outside or grab a jump rope and do interval training. There are so many variations to go to if what you have planned doesn’t work out. Try and remember we all have to start somewhere, and these new gym goers are looking to start now in this New Year. So instead of being frustrated, help the newbie out by providing your knowledge and advice. It will go a long way! As for all the newbies out there, to make the crowded gym a not-so-hostile place, please don’t over socialize, don’t take up the squat rack for curls, don’t make up your own exercises,  don’t throw your weights, don’t’ take instagram pictures in the mirror, and anything else to that nature. Just come up with a schedule, follow it, have a plan-b, and look to be in and out of the gym in about 45 minutes. If you have a question on form, or how to do certain exercises, or you need a spot, do not be afraid to ask someone as they will be more than willing to help you out. Big things 2013!
