1. Get back to the basics

Don’t over complicate your diet plan or set unrealistic expectations. Get back to the basics by making sure your meals are well balanced. To do that, ensure each meal is packed filled with proteins, carbohydrates and vegetables.

2. Take it one day at a time

Dwelling on the past will not help you move forward. Forget about the cheat meals you had last weekend. Simply put, you cannot change it now! Instead, focus on the future and what you have control over. One of the best ways to move forward is to start living in the present and taking it one day at a time. It is a process that has worked well for me over the years.

3. Do something every day that gets you closer to your goal

When you wake up in the morning, think of one task you would like to complete that day. This can be as simple as “drinking enough water." There is no magic trick to drinking more water, but it has to start as a habit. Carry a water bottle with you to school or work. Keep track of how many bottles you are drinking per day. Aim to do one thing each day that brings you closer to your goal. You'll be amazed at the progress you can make over time.

4. Be patient and stay positive
